What is the School-Age Credential?

The School-Age Credential is a state-recognized certification for educators working with children aged 5–12 in out-of-school time settings such as afterschool programs, summer camps, and school-age classrooms. It serves as a benchmark for professional competency in the field of school-age care and meets the Florida Department of Children and Families (DCF) staff credential requirement.

Delivered online through ChildCare Education Institute (CCEI), this version of the School-Age Credential allows educators to learn at their own pace, with the flexibility to complete coursework on their schedule. The curriculum includes foundational topics such as child development, behavior guidance, program planning, and family engagement, specifically tailored to school-age learners.

How Will the Program Work?

Participants will enroll in the School-Age Credential program directly through CCEI. Once enrolled, applicants will submit their application for a TEACH scholarship, which typically takes about six weeks for approval. Once approved, participants will begin the program

You will be required to complete 80-hours of CCEI training plus provide proof of completion of Florida's DCF 40-hour child care training. This carries the equivalent of 12 IACET CEUs.

The program is self-paced and asynchronous, meaning you can complete your coursework on your own schedule. However, you won’t be on your own—CCEI Learning Coaches will check in with you weekly via email and Zoom, offering guidance, accountability, and support throughout the program. Phone support is also available if needed.

Who is Eligible to Participate?

  • Must have proof of Florida DCF child care training (40-hour introductory training)
  • Teachers and staff working in licensed school-age programs in Miami-Dade or Monroe counties
  • Educators providing care for children ages 5–12 in out-of-school time settings
